Founded in 1956, the Maine AFL-CIO is a federation of 160 local unions representing 42,000 workers, 5 central labor councils and six national union and industry councils. They represent all kinds of workers — teachers, papermakers, truck drivers, nurses, letter carriers, firefighters, shipbuilders, and many more. Their mission is to improve the lives of working families—to bring economic justice to the workplace and social justice to our state and the nation.
